Special Education

Mudgee Public School is widely held in high regard for the quality of opportunities it provides students with disabilities.

The school boasts a comprehensive Special Education Unit with experienced professionals who are caring and supportive.

There are four individual classes ranging in class sizes from five to eighteen students. All classes have full time teachers’ aides to assist with the implementation of curriculum to students.

Staff ensure the needs of all students are met by working in conjunction with outside agencies.Students have access to Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists through agencies including: Department of Aging, Disabilities and Home Care, Royal Far West Children’s Hospital, Go Ahead Therapy and The Spastic Centre of NSW etc.Sp Ed

Itinerant support teachers in Vision, Hearing and Behaviour are also accessed on behalf of the students and their families.

Each class is equipped with up to the minute technology to assist teaching and learning programs. All classes have computers and Interactive Whiteboards.

A sensory learning area and gross motor room are well equipped to extend the potential of our students. A range of fun activities occur regularly in the ball pool, on mini trampolines, climbing equipment and tactile sound and light boards.

Students participate in a wide range of activities both within the school and the community. Students are placed in mainstream home classes where appropriate, for integration with their age group and attend excursions, participate in the School Swimming Scheme, Stage Performances, Riding for the Disabled and the Gulgong Eisteddfod.

Our Special Education students are a much valued and integral part of our school.
