MPS netball team was picked during term 1 and was to play our first game against Kandos Public School in March but unfortunately Kandos had to forfeit. We went straight to the divisional day in Dubbo on Thursday 23rd April where 16 teams from the Dubbo region all played.

Round 1 was against Dubbo West and we won 15-1. This was the first game that the girls actually played together as a team and it took a few minutes for their passes to stick. The centre court combinations of Hanna Williamson, Sarah Marshall and Isabella Shearman helped to steer the team to a comfortable win.

The second game was against Forbes Public School. Our shooting team of Meggan Notson and Ally Henry had the eye in and led the team to a comfortable win 16-9.

The third round was a very tough match against Orana Heights Public School. They were very fit and fast around the court and they soon had a lead of 5-0. However, thanks to some brilliant intercepts and goal circle defence work from our defence team of Natalie Hibberd, Mariah Burnicle and Sarah Gatley we were able to remain competitive throughout the whole game. We eventually lost the game 24-16. Orana Heights Public School went on to win the competition on the day.

This team of girls represented MPS with great sportsmanship, friendship and teamwork. They did the job they were asked to do, even if they were very tired or had to play out of position. They were a pleasure to coach and take away to a sporting event.

During the day selectors from Western Region and NSW Netball were watching the games looking for players to form a Divisional/Zone team. This team will play again in Dubbo in late May and from this day the Western Region Netball Team will be chosen. MPS had three students chosen in the divisional side- Isabella Shearman, Hanna Williamson and Ally Henry.

We wish them all the best at the selection trials and we will keep you posted on the progress.
